Our Mission:

The Black Business Students Association (BBSA) of the University of Texas at Austin is a professional organization that was established to serve African Americans and other business-minded students. The members of BBSA strongly adhere to the principles of achievement, unity, and service. BBSA aims to unite our members under the common goal of better serving the African-American community through corporate networking, mentorship, business related functions, social events, and community service that equips its members with the necessary skills to succeed in the business world and beyond.

   Our Objectives:
  • To strive for and encourage excellence and professional growth among our members
  • To maintain mutually beneficial relationships with the goal of enhancing the career exposure and prospects for our members and enriching the diversity of our corporate sponsors by providing them with access to a rich talent pool of underrepresented students
  • To initiate, develop, and maintain contact amongst and between our members, faculty, administration, other McCombs organizations and the general studentbody at The University of Texas at Austin
  • To develop and maintain an Alumni network
  • To foster and promote interaction with other black student organizations in The University of Texas at Austin community
  • To provide the means for social interaction amongst members and other groups as appropriate
  • To reach out to the larger community through service-oriented activities

  Traditional Events:

  • Networking Reception
    • The Networking Reception provides students the opportunity to interact with important contacts in a professional social setting. Attendees are able to develop effective networking skills while simultaneously building their network.

  • Thanksgiving Dinner
    • While creating a communal atmosphere, this program aims to celebrate, appreciate and promote Black excellence.

  • Winter Cooldown & Spring Warm-Up
    • As our annual end of semester social, these events allow members to relax in a casual enviroment right before finals.

  • Banquet
    • This commemorating event highlights our dedicated members and officers in an elegant setting. We are able to reflect and admonish the growth of the organization and key individuals as we conclude the year.

  Frequently Asked Questions:

   Do I need to be a business major or Black to join BBSA?
   BBSA is open to all students at The University of Texas at Austin regardless of major or ethnicity. In fact,    leadership positions within BBSA have been held by people who do not fit that description.

   How do I become an official member of the Black Business Student Association?
   In order to become an official member of BBSA you must pay member dues and fill out a short member    information sheet. Member dues can be paid online or in person at any of the BBSA general meetings.

   What are the benefits of being an official paid member of BBSA?
   Besides being able to participate in all of BBSA’s events; paid members have the opportunity to apply for    leadership roles within HBSA and receive discounts on social events.

   When and where are BBSA’s general meetings?
   BBSA holds bi-monthly general meetings on Tuesdays starting at 6:00pm. Our meeting room for fall 2009 will    be announced on our listserv at the beginning of the year. Free food is provided at every meeting and all are    welcome. See our calendar for upcoming general meeting dates.

   What can BBSA do for me?
   Since our beginning in 2005, BBSA has provided its members with development and assistance both    professionally and academically. We strive to help our members find internships and job opportunities so that    they can achieve their career goals. BBSA also provides a family atmosphere that allows members to build close    relationships. BBSA can help you succeed professionally and for many it has also enriched their lives on a    personal level.    

   Where are officer meetings held?
   BBSA’s officer meetings are held in the Frito Lay Leadership Center located on the third floor of the business    school (next to O’s Campus Café). Members interested in becoming officers are encouraged to attend an officer    meeting prior to running. The Frito is open for studying and computers are available for students in the    McCombs School of Business.
